How often have you heard, “Production can’t find any xxx components; send someone to stores to do a cycle count”!
There’s a good Jeff Foxworthy punch line here somewhere. Sometimes we all misplace inventory or make incorrect transactions, but cycle counting is not a parts-finding process in real life.
Cycle counting is mostly a quality system process, and the counting of the parts is not the important part. The most important part of a good cycle counting program is finding the root cause and implementing a corrective action process when a count falls outside its allowable limits of accuracy.
Detecting the root cause of the error to prevent it from reoccurring to that part and others is phenomenally important. The cost of stock-outs is hard to measure and easy to go unnoticed, but a good cycle count program’s implementation process can have a payback period within a few weeks or a few months in most instances.
Using your ERP’s cycle count module or a process outside your system, we can help you implement a good cycle counting program that will have your employees cheering. Please let us know if we can help.
